Los Angeles, California | Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 Review by Kimberly Annette The music of a beautiful old soul, April Martin’s new album In The Blink of a Life is a journey into the depths of the human heart’s experience. Martin’s folk vocals backed by raw and organic acoustic guitar and percussion vibrates mystically through one’s mind and into the depths of the heart. The influence of Martin’s career as a practicing Doctor of Psychology is heard loud and clear within the lyrics of each song. For anyone who has experienced therapy, there is recognition of healthy vital ingredients for understanding and healing within the tracks of In The Blink of a Life. Martin continues her career as a practicing psychologist in New York City allowing her music to fulfill her childhood passion. As a child in the 1950’s Martin’s affection for music was born and nurtured by her father. Each week her father would give her a nickel to purchase the latest song sheet at the corner candy store. The two would then learn the songs. Songs like, “How Much Is That Doggie in the Window,” and “Secret Love.” But it wasn’t until much later in life that her passion for songwriting would blossom as she found herself humming tunes she had never heard. She gave voice to these tunes bringing her interesting perspective from the decades spent engaged in the human condition and the immense love of her three children. In The Blink of a Life, is the follow-up to Martin’s 2010 first album, Pennies in a Jar that earned her a large internet radio following. In The Blink of a Life is inspirationally delightful and sings to the life within, a worthy find and a plus to one’s folk collection.
