The Rock Rag was extremely pleased to be in the house that night, especially backstage several hours before the show, where many of the artists gathered to talk about their feelings on this special night. Keyboardist Chuck Leavell, who, of course, dates back to the early 70s in the Allman Brothers Band, and for many years has been the bandleader for the Rolling Stones, was emotional on this night. “Playing in the band tonight, and going back over all of these old songs is really a beautiful experience for me. Sometimes I don’t fully realize the history I have with this guy, but seeing him onstage and being a part of this evening, totally takes me back to hanging out in that house of theirs down in Macon. Gregg Allman was one of my musical heroes even before I joined the band, and so tonight is nothing short of an honor.” Country legend Vince Gill was also feeling it. “Allman Brothers music makes me emotional in a lot of different ways,” he shared. “One of the greatest honors of my life was when I was allowed to play one of Duane Allman’s guitars at a show I did down in Macon. What these guys did for music is something very few bands can claim. And I don’t think as many people realize how deep Gregg’s catalog is, even beyond the band. He’s an amazing musician and songwriter, and I know tonight will be unforgettable.” The legendary Taj Mahal echoed everyone’s thoughts. “You get all these guys together, and you think they’re getting the egos flying around. But no way. This’s been all about the music. There’s so much respect out there, and so much love for this man, and for everybody, in fact, that it reminds you why you became a musician in the first place. Allman Brothers music to me was always about family. This night is about family, too.” RED CARPET PHOTO GALLERY GREGG ALLMAN WEBSITE | FACEBOOK | TWITTER | YOUTUBE | ITUNES ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND WEBSITE | FACEBOOK | TWITTER | ITUNES | AMAZON CHRIS EPTING | WEBSITE | FACEBOOK | BOOKS BY CHRIS EPTING | WEBTALK RADIO: BACKSTAGE – ONSTAGE – ON THE RECORD KIMBERLY ANNETTE| WEBSITE | FACEBOOK | TWITTER Leave a Reply Cancel ReplyYou must be logged in to post a comment.
