Mr. Nice Guy by Chris Epting A number of years ago, our daughter was working as a journalist for the student edition of Time magazine. Given that she was covering the West Coast for Time For Kids, often she got to report on some big events while interviewing some big stars. One year at the season finale for “American Idol,” she was conducting interviews on the red carpet before heading inside. I was with her that night, and when I saw Alice Cooper coming toward her (he was singing on the show that night), I became way more excited than she. But she knew who he was and when he stopped to talk to her, they wound up having a very nice interview. Time for Kids liked to run lots of photos, so I offered to take one of them. In the first, they both posed smiling. But then Alice said to my daughter, “You know if you want a real photo with Alice, it’s best if he’s choking you.” Then he looked at me and said, “Is that okay, dad?” I looked at Claire and said, “What do you think?” She lit up and said “Sure!” So here it is, preserved forever. A picture of Claire with the “real” Alice Cooper. Although as anyone that’s met him can tell you, the real Alice Cooper is one of the nicest guys in the world.
