Shawn Perry – Huntington Beach, California

SHAWN PERRY | Contributing Writer

Shawn caught the rock and roll bug the minute he saw The Beatles on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” Actual musical talent took a backseat to writing, so he started by pumping out concert and record reviews for his high school and college newspapers. After graduating in the early ’80s, he set his writing ambitions aside and stumbled into the music world as a band manager, working the clubs up and down the Sunset Strip in Hollywood.ShawnPerry_BioPic

This lead to stints as a studio owner, promoter, roadie, A&R rep, musical instrument merchandiser and part-time music journalist with a handful of reviews appearing in Music Connection, BAM and other music publications. When the Internet came along, Shawn seized upon the opportunity to expand his music-writing passion, and established VintageRock.com in 1997, one of the first music e-zines of its kind.

Since then, he has written over 1,000 articles and reviews, and interviewed such luminaries as Steve Miller, Eric Burdon, Robin Trower, Alan Parsons, Tommy Chong, Edgar Winter, Dweezil Zappa and various members of The Rolling Stones, The Who, the Doors, the Eagles, the Allman Brothers Band, the Grateful Dead, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Fleetwood Mac, Moody Blues, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Yes, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Kansas, Foreigner, Styx, Journey, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns N Roses, The Scorpions, Cheap Trick, and many more. Additional writing assignments include various music blogs, band bios for Rival Sons and Heaven & Earth, and liner notes, including for Wiley & Sons “Music For Dummies” CD series. Shawn is currently compiling an anthology of interviews and a book celebrating 16 years of Vintage Rock, both scheduled for a 2014 release.
