HOLLYWOOD, CA, October 19, 2013

Runnin’ with the wolves to the light of the full moon, it’s Saturday night in Hollywood. I step out of my cab. Struck by the slightly odd chill in the air, I can feel the playfully sinister mischief resting upon the dark night. Dim streetlights are no match for the illumination coming from the full moon hanging low above my destination. I can feel my pulse rate increase, beating hard through my entire body as the walls that lay before me beckon from within. The door open and inviting, I step inside. Make my way down the long stone paved corridor to a tantalizing outdoor patio. A seductive fountain dripping with dozens of lit candles lay at the center. This was it. Bar Sinister. Oh, how apropos a venue for Prima Donna, the steamy sexy glam punk band holding court here this evening.

With voyeuristic intentions, I make my way through the crowd. Excited by the many sights, I press through to the front of the stage, camera poised and ready. My mind a playground of sultry exhibitions unleashes. The royalty at the head of the master’s table for the night’s festivities, Prima Donna’s lead singer-guitarist Kevin Preston slips through the smoky cloud and onto the stage.

_H5A1174I had only heard of Preston’s dark sexy presence previously, but witnessing it, I was struck by a hidden explosiveness—one that cries out from the inside, fighting against itself, trying to break free, dripping in a desirable tension.

I am a “Sociopath.” And the fun begins as the song takes flight, soaring through the sea of black dresses swirling, entangling and sucking them in, it was obvious that the crowd had gotten the memo that royal court attendees must wear black for tonight’s festivities. Black dresses, black tight straight-legged jeans, black jackets, black boots, black sexy hot heels, black lingerie exposing ample breasts. Seductive beauty abounds within the walls of Bar Sinister this night.

Erik Arcane and Preston’s guitars (always hot and heavy) pulse through the air along with the backbeat rhythm of “Lights Out” Levine’s bass, and the pounding rhythmic drums of David S. Field. Drums that beat to the heartbeat of their court, add in the keys and sultry sax of Aaron Minton—Prima Donna seduce the sea of black to a total controlled trans-like state, giving the band complete power over their subjects.

The glam sound of Prima Donna has been compared to Mott the Hoople, but there are also obvious influences from bands like Hanoi Rocks, the New York Dolls, even a bit of Iggy Pop, and definitely the sexualized element of Adam Ant—a style that is timeless and sexy as hell. Preston as frontman bleeds his influences into a beautiful “Mess” all over the stage, a mess worthy of blessing and feasting upon. His vocal provocations and highly sexually enthralled, empowered, outright hot lyrics are mind candy. His presence is captivating, intriguing, intense and a bit insane. He is dark, the explosive kind, the one you can’t take your eyes off, but somehow you feel a bit dirty for staring, although the voyeur in me would never turn away.

_H5A1345The last song of the set and Preston cries out: “I will corrupt you, tell you lies so filthy and you won’t mind, cause you won’t care,” and walks off the stage, down through the crowd tethered by his microphone cord, heads straight to the fountain. The fountain in the center of the courtyard filled with water and stacked with candles dripping in wax. And just when I thought it couldn’t get any hotter—Preston lays down in the fountain. Yes, in the water. Royal court patrons all around, he takes a candle in hand and pours candle wax all over himself while fully clothed, a priceless yet sinister smile crosses my lips. Drinks flow from above Preston into his waiting and open mouth, his lips glistening and moist. The highly sexual imagery displayed within the fountain is the perfect ending to the tantalizing “Feral Children” and a mind-blowing end to a full-force, heat-filled, in-your-face set.

And that is just the beginning of my night!_H5A1365
