Los Angeles, California | September 27th, 2016 Review by Kimberly Annette To find new music that creates a sense of excitement and anticipation for all that is to come is to find a piece of joy that lights one’s world and defines memories. As the follow-up to The Slang’s first self-titled EP Night and Day creates this type of excitement. The mellow vibe and smooth flow of Night and Day is like cruising in a 69 convertible Camaro down the coastline with wind-tossed hair, the warmth of the sun on the face and nothing much to do but drive. The title track “Night and Day” is in the driver seat leading the way down the highway with “Breakthrough” and “Remember to Forget” hanging out in the back seat like good old friends. (Full track list below) The road for songwriter, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist John Bobo is actually a Night and Day difference. Bobo turned down an offer to become an FBI Special Agent to follow up on the success of the first EP. Bobo’s altered career path and the recent changes in the band’s lineup since their 2015 debut release provided inspiration for the title Night and Day. What had been a trio is now the duo of Bobo and Bassist John Newsome. Quite an interesting road for The Slang’s musical journey. Additional musician include: Miles McPherson (Kelly Clarkson, Paramore) drums and percussion, Matt Slocum (Sixpence None the Richer), Kris Wilkinson, David Davidson, David Angell and Sari Reist strings, Jerry McPherson and John Garratt, guitars, Dustin Ransom organ, synth and upright piano, Kim Keyes and Chris Rodriguez, backing vocals. The five track EP was recorded in Nashville at Ocean Way Studios and released this summer. Night and Day is available now to stream on Soundcloud or for purchase on iTumes or on their website. The Slang are hitting the road this fall in support of the EP so be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming tour dates to your city.
